What Is a Local or Home Daily Truck Driving Job?
Local truck drivers typically operate in a set geographic or metro region, and they often are paid much less because they are home every day.
Roehl home daily truck drivers stay within 200–250 miles of their homes and, like a local truck driver job in their area, they get home daily and in most cases, weekends off, too.
Many local truck driving jobs are not typically paid by the mile. Because local truck drivers tend to make more pick-ups and deliveries in a day, they are often paid hourly, and in some cases, earn additional pay based on performance or the other work the truck driver does — like stop pay, pick-up and delivery pay, or tarping on a local flatbed job.
What Makes Roehl’s Home Daily Jobs Different
At Roehl, many drivers in a home daily trucking job get the home time of a local driver AND are paid using Roehl’s Dynamic Pay Plan.
Most Roehl drivers in a home daily driving job are paid using Roehl’s Dynamic Pay Plan (based on length of haul). The Dynamic Pay Plan rewards drivers for their time and performance — not just a tired old flat cents per mile. Some Roehl drivers operate in fleets that offer hourly pay.
In addition to the consistent pay, home daily and local truck drivers at Roehl earn the same benefits as drivers in other divisions. Driver benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance, paid time off (vacation time and paid holidays), and a robust retirement package that includes both a 401(k) and profit sharing.
Can You Get a Local Truck Driving Job With No Experience?
Because the demand for local truck driving jobs in your area is so high, in most cases those home daily driving jobs are filled by experienced CDL-A drivers.
That’s the reality — and it’s worth understanding why. Local routes put drivers in tighter spaces, with more stops per day, often in metro and industrial areas. Companies filling those routes want drivers who have already built their fundamental skills on the road.
At Roehl, some open local and home daily positions are specifically open to Get Your CDL™ candidates and recent CDL school graduates. These are marked in the listings below. If you live in Wisconsin, Indiana, or central Minnesota, several positions are available to drivers who are just starting out in the trucking industry.
The Path From No Experience to Home Daily
If you’re starting without a CDL or without trucking experience, here’s how drivers build toward a local fleet at Roehl:
- Get your CDL through Roehl’s Get Your CDL™ program. If you qualify, you’re hired as a full-time employee on day one, earning a paycheck while you train. Three weeks at a Roehl terminal. You test for your CDL in the final week.
- Build your foundation in Phases 2 and 3. After earning your CDL from Roehl’s on-the-job training program or from a local truck driving school, you’ll spend at least 19 days on the road with a certified Roehl Driver Trainer, before you get your own truck and begin operating on your own.
- Get into an open home daily driving position directly. Some Roehl home daily positions are open to Get Your CDL and recent truck driving school graduates — primarily in Wisconsin and Indiana. Talk to a Roehl Driver Employment Center teammate about positions that may fit your situation.
- Use a home weekly fleet as a bridge. Depending on where you live, you may be eligible for a home weekly truck driving job. For example, Roehl has regional fleets in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast — all of those fleets offer 48 hours of weekly home time. In some other areas, Roehl has HOMEtime PLUS™ Fleets, including 7/7 fleets that will get you home a full week for every week you drive — about 26 weeks of home time per year. While these are not home daily fleets, they might be able to bridge the gap between over-the-road national fleets and local truck driving jobs.
At Roehl, we value Delivering Success, and we invest in our driving teammates’ successes. That’s why our operational teammates work to create more home daily positions. If you are an experienced driver, check out the open positions. If you are just starting out, consider taking the first step to a truck driving career (for a full guide to getting your CDL, see How to Get Your CDL.

Frequently Asked Questions: Local and Home Daily Truck Driving Jobs
What is the difference between a local and home daily trucking job?
Local truck drivers operate in a set geographic region and return home at the end of each day — typically nightly, within 100 to 250 miles of a terminal. Home daily is used the same way at Roehl. What makes Roehl different from most companies is that home daily drivers earn a Dynamic Pay Plan, not the lower hourly pay typical of most local trucking positions.
What states does Roehl have local CDL truck driving jobs in?
As of June 2026, Roehl is hiring local and home daily CDL-A drivers in Georgia (Atlanta area), Illinois (Rockford and Chicago area), Indiana (Indianapolis and Gary area), Minnesota (Minneapolis/St. Paul), North Carolina and South Carolina (Charlotte area), Ohio (Dayton, Findlay, Hinckley, and Sidney), Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth), and Wisconsin (Milwaukee, Appleton, Madison, Wausau, Marshfield, and multiple other cities). Search current openings by state at Truck Driving Jobs by State.
Does Roehl have local truck driving jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes — Wisconsin has more Roehl local fleet positions than any other state, with many open home daily jobs across Milwaukee, Appleton, Madison, Wausau, Marshfield, and communities throughout central Wisconsin. Several Wisconsin positions are open to Get Your CDL™ candidates and recent graduates.
Does Roehl have local truck driving jobs in Minnesota?
Yes. Roehl has three home daily positions open to Minnesota residents, all based out of the St. Paul yard in the Twin Cities. One is a van fleet covering the upper Midwest; two are refrigerated positions hauling dairy freight between Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Does Roehl have local truck driving jobs in Ohio?
Yes. Roehl has four local and home daily positions in Ohio: the Findlay Dedicated Advantage Fleet (open to student drivers, within 30 miles of Findlay), the Dayton Home Daily Van Fleet (Monday–Friday daytime schedule), the Hinckley Home Daily Van Fleet (northeast Ohio, near Cleveland), and the Dedicated Ohio position (Sidney to Grand Haven, MI route, averaging $1,500/week).
Can I get a local CDL job with no experience?
Most Roehl local and home daily positions require prior CDL-A experience. However, some of the open driving positions are specifically marked as open to Get Your CDL™ candidates and recent CDL school graduates — primarily in Wisconsin and Indiana. The path for a no-experience candidate: earn your CDL through Roehl’s paid GYCDL program (earn while you learn) and get into a home daily fleet, if available, or consider a home weekly position if one is open in your area.
What is Roehl’s Refrigerated Dairyland Fleet?
Roehl’s Refrigerated Dairyland Fleet is a network of refrigerated positions based in Wisconsin cities that haul temperature-controlled freight — primarily cheese and other frozen products (no milk) — between Minnesota and Wisconsin dairy country. Dairyland positions are home daily, open to GYCDL candidates and recent graduates, and all share the same pay structure: $1,090–$1,855 per week, averaging $1,335/week with top drivers earning $1,500/week. Current Dairyland positions are based in Antigo, Appleton, Colby/Abbotsford, Medford, Plymouth, St. Paul MN, Rockford IL, and Wausau. There are also some home daily Van Dairyland Fleet driving positions located along I-90 and I-94 from Minneapolis area to Madison & Milwaukee and then down to the Chicago and Hammond, Indiana area.
What is HOMEtime PLUS?
HOMEtime PLUS™ is Roehl’s fleet option for drivers who want more home time than standard OTR driving but aren’t yet in a local fleet or don’t have a local opening in their area. The 7/7 fleet gets you home a full week for every week you drive — about 26 weeks per year. The 7/4 and 7/3 fleets average about 120 days off per year. The 14/7 fleet offers high miles with 7 days home after 14 days out. Learn more at Home Time Plus.
