Training Overview
Get paid to train in every phase - Training road map.
Here's an overview of what to expect.
Phase 1: The Get Your CDL Program > Train for 3 weeks > You'll be paid while you get your CDL > Get paid at the end of your third week > Learn from instructors with practical OTR experience
You’ll train on the very trucks and trailers you’ll be driving, and you’ll learn in small groups – your instructor will train you and two others (a 3-to-1 ratio). You will test for your CDL in the last week of the training program.
Training covers:
- Basic control
- Vehicle inspections
- Control systems
- Speed management
- Space management
- Back/docking
- Turning
- Coupling/uncoupling
- Hazard prevention
- Protective driving
- Life Outside The Truck™
- Communication systems
- Atlas use and trip planning
- Accident procedures
Phase 2: On-the-job training > Train for 19 days depending on your progress > You'll earn a daily rate when you are training with trainer > Get paid 2 weeks after your first day with a trainer > Learn from Certified Driver Trainers
In Phase 2, you’ll go out with a Certified Driver Trainer where you'll work with live freight. You'll sleep in the truck at truck stops just like on the job on your own. Our trainer trucks have bigger cabs that can accommodate separate bunks for both you and your trainer. It's important to note that this is not team driving. When you are driving, your trainer is in the passenger seat giving you feedback and teaching you.
At the end of Phase 2, you’ll confirm your skills.
Phase 3: Get your own truck > Typically train for 1 month > Earn the mileage rate based on the fleet you are in > Get paid 1 week after you complete the work
In Phase 3, you’ll get your own truck, and you’ll be paid a mileage rate based on the fleet you selected.
In this final phase you’ll be working closely with a fleet training manager that you’ll talk with by phone each day and even several times a day. Your training manager will help you master the fine points of the job.
Your weekly pay will be determined by how many miles you drive that week, and you’ll receive your paycheck the week after you complete the work.
When you’re done, you’ll begin working with a fleet manager in the fleet you chose, and you’ll be on your way to $70,000 or more.
