Training Roadmap: How It Works
Phase 1 – Classroom & Yard (3 weeks)
Includes support for earning your CLP (Commercial Learner’s Permit) if you don’t already have it.
- Basic truck control, coupling/uncoupling, yard operations.
- Pre-trip inspections, hazard awareness, communication systems.
- Instruction delivered in small groups (3 trainees per instructor).
- Take the CDL permit (CLP) test during this phase.
Phase 2 – Over-the-Road Training (at least 19 days)
Important: This is not team driving. You will drive while your trainer coaches you from the passenger seat. If your trainer is driving, you'll be observing from the passenger seat.
- Phase Two is on-the-job training where you’ll go out with a Driver Trainer and work with live freight.
- Not team-driving—trainer in the passenger seat, you drive, and vice-versa.
Phase 3 – Solo Truck & Career Start
- Assigned your own truck and you'll work with a fleet training manager.
- You'll have continued support as you progress in your career.
