Oregon (OR) CDL Practice Tests

Preparing for the Oregon CDL written exam requires more than memorizing answers — it requires understanding how commercial driving rules are applied on Oregon roadways. This page features Oregon CDL practice tests designed to help drivers review key knowledge areas tested by the state, including General Knowledge, Combination Vehicles, and Air Brakes.

These practice tests are intended to complement study materials found in the Oregon CDL manual by helping drivers check their readiness before exam day. By working through realistic practice questions, Oregon CDL applicants can better identify weak areas, reinforce critical concepts, and approach the official knowledge test with greater confidence.

Oregon (OR) CDL permit applicants can work through these five practice questions to review core exam concepts and prepare for the Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) knowledge test.

Oregon CDL Practice Tests: General Knowledge, Combination Vehicle & Air Brakes

Drivers preparing for an Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) should focus on three core CDL practice tests. These align with the written knowledge exams required in Oregon and support the material covered in the official Oregon Commercial Driver Manual.

For best results, combine CDL practice tests with the Oregon Commercial Driver Manual and focus on the sections that match your intended license class and endorsements.

Preparing for the Oregon CDL Exam

Commercial driver licensing standards are established at the federal level by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Each state is responsible for administering CDL testing and licensing.

In Oregon, CDL information and testing requirements are published by the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division (DMV). The official CDL manual used for written knowledge and skills testing is:

The Oregon CDL manual applies to all commercial license classes, including:

  • Class A CDL
  • Class B CDL
  • Class C CDL

You must be at least 21 years old to operate interstate, transport hazardous materials, or operate a commercial vehicle across state lines.

Valid Oregon Driver’s License

You must hold a valid Oregon non-commercial driver’s license before applying for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

CDL Knowledge Tests and Endorsements

Applicants must pass the required CDL knowledge tests covering general CDL topics, air brakes (if applicable), combination vehicles, and any endorsements needed for their intended type of driving.

Common CDL endorsements include:

  • Hazardous Materials (H)
  • Tank Vehicles (N)
  • Passenger (P)
  • School Bus (S)
  • Double/Triple Trailers (T)

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)

Federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements apply to many Oregon CDL applicants. ELDT must be completed through an FMCSA-registered training provider before taking the CDL skills test or completing certain endorsement requirements.

ELDT is required for:

  • First-time Class A CDL applicants
  • First-time Class B CDL applicants
  • Drivers upgrading from Class B to Class A
  • Applicants adding Hazardous Materials (H), Passenger (P), or School Bus (S) endorsements for the first time

Background Checks and Documentation

Certain endorsements, including Hazardous Materials (H), require a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check and fingerprinting before the endorsement can be issued. Applicants must also provide documentation verifying identity, legal presence in the United States, residency information, and Social Security number.

Oregon CDL Application Process

CDL applicants in Oregon must meet eligibility requirements, pass the required knowledge tests, obtain a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP), complete any required Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), and successfully complete the CDL skills test before receiving a commercial driver's license.

To obtain a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP), applicants must have a valid Oregon driver license, meet age requirements, provide required identification documents, pass the required knowledge tests, complete medical certification requirements, and pay all applicable fees. A CLP must generally be held for at least 14 days before taking the CDL skills test.
