A Day in the Life: What Driving for Roehl Actually Looks Like
"What's it actually like?" is one of the hardest questions to answer with a job posting. Pay numbers and benefit lists tell you what you'll earn - they don't tell you what your day looks like. What fits your career today may change over time. Some drivers prioritize more time on the road, while others want a regional schedule, dedicated freight or more frequent home time. Having different fleet options gives experienced drivers room to grow their careers as their priorities evolve. Here's a walkthrough of four different ways to drive for Roehl, based on how each fleet actually runs.
OTR / National Fleet: 11–14 Days Out, 3 Days Home
Your week starts with a load assignment, not a clock-in. Most mornings begin with a pre-trip inspection - checking lights, tires, brakes, and the load itself - before you're on the road. Roehl's average tractor is less than 24 months old, so you're not troubleshooting an aging truck on top of the miles.
Through the day, dispatch and load updates come through the My Roehl app, where you can also scan paperwork and send messages without waiting for a terminal. If you are a driver in a flatbed fleet, tarping and untarping may be part of the job - and it's paid separately, not folded into your mileage rate. Evenings usually mean finding a place to park, logging your hours, and resting before the next leg.
After 11 to 14 days on the road, you're home for 3 - and on the National Fleet, you can choose to stay out longer for a longer stretch home afterward, if that rhythm works better for your life. See open Roehl National Fleet truck driving jobs.
Regional Fleet: Home Weekly
Regional driving runs the same basic rhythm as OTR - pre-trip, drive, deliver, repeat - but within a smaller footprint and a shorter cycle. At the end of the week, you're home for quality time before you're back out.
Some dedicated fleets also offer weekly home time with this same rhythm, which means the day-to-day driving experience can look a lot like a regional run even if you're technically assigned to a specific customer's freight. Check out Roehl's Dedicated driving jobs.
Home Daily & Local Driving Jobs
Home daily drivers are home every night, most operating out of one of Roehl's terminals or drop yards, though Roehl has added home daily driving jobs in other areas. Your day looks the most like a traditional job with a defined start and end - you're typically not managing days-out logistics, finding overnight parking, or planning meals around a truck stop. You’ll typically drive within 250 miles of your home in one of Roehl's home daily truck driving jobs.

What Stays the Same Across Every Fleet
A few things don't change no matter which of these you choose:
The honest truth is that none of these fleet types is "better" than another - they're built for different priorities. If miles and earning potential matter most, National Fleet driving may be your best choice. If a predictable schedule and more home time matter most, a dedicated or Regional run might fit better. If being home every night is non-negotiable, Home Daily is the answer.

A few things don't change no matter which of these you choose:
- Roehl is built on values, and safety is Roehl’s cornerstone value. Drivers have final say on whether road conditions are safe to drive, no questions asked.
- You’ll be paid on address-to-address practical route mileage, and in most fleets, you’ll earn Roehl’s Dynamic Pay Plan, not a flat cents-per-mile rate. Roehl also offer a full per diem.
- You can bring the best parts of home with you - the Passenger Program lets you share the cab with a spouse, child, or another person who matters to you, and the Pet Passport Program means your dog or cat can ride along too.
- The My Roehl App puts paperwork, messaging, pay information, and referral submissions in your pocket, wherever you're parked.
