Roehl's Shawn A. Featured in Driving Force Magazine
Shawn Allman joined Roehl as an experienced truck driver almost nine years ago, after already logging over a million safe miles with a different company. A Michigan native, Shawn knew he wanted to be home more with his young son, so he joined one of Roehl’s HOMEtime PLUS fleets that features regular, extended home time schedules.
Shawn drives seven days and then is home seven days, saying that with Roehl, he has never missed the time off he wanted. “Family is #1 for me. Roehl has a family feel, and Roehl will get you home,” says Shawn.
Frequent, predictable home time isn’t the only advantage that Shawn is currently enjoying. He was pleased with the recent news that Roehl had implemented a pay raise for drivers operating under Roehl’s Your Choice Pay Plan. The increased mileage pay offers an increase of 6% to 10% in the mileage rate.
“I was very happy (with the pay increase news),” Shawn noted. “This puts us above other companies and gives me enough money to stay home with my son and work part time.”
Experienced drivers will get a 5-cents-permile increase at level 10 of the pay plan, and inexperienced drivers will get a 2-cents-per-mile increase at level 1. Based on their performance, Roehl truck drivers can move up in the Your Choice Pay Plan each quarter, and all Roehl pay levels will receive an increase.
“I know what other companies are paying and Roehl’s pay, benefits and home time top them all. And with Roehl’s Your Choice Pay Plan, you can rapidly advance your pay,” he says.
Shawn advanced at Roehl himself and is a certified driver trainer, saying he likes giving someone else the knowledge he didn’t get when he started in trucking. “In this industry, what matters is often behind the scenes—the relationship with the people you work with,” he says. “Even though we’re a big company, we still have one-on-one connections.”
While Roehl has long been known as a great place to start, Shawn sums up why he stays with the company by saying, “I’ve been driving for almost 19 years with no accidents or points. I could drive for anyone. I probably wouldn’t still be in this industry without the home time Roehl offers me.”
A Top Pay Certified Carrier by the National Transportation Institute, Roehl offers professional CDL-A drivers a variety of fleet and home time options, including national, regional and dedicated positions with most drivers receiving weekly home time.
