Roehl's Douglas Couch is a Semi-Finalist in the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award
Congratulations to Roehl Transport truck driver Douglas Couch for being named a semi-finalist in the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award!
Douglas served in the United States Navy from 2012‐2016. He was a Culinary Specialist 2nd Class, overseeing 50 sailors in the production of over 10,000 meals a day, feeding the crew onboard the USS Nimitz CVN 68 of over 5,000 sailors and marines while being forward deployed.
Douglas earned his CDL through Roehl’s Get Your CDL on-the-job training program, and he noted that he chose the trucking industry because he felt that it would give him the opportunity to continue serving his country in a different aspect. He’s now a driver in Roehl’s Van Midwest Regional Fleet.
A member of the Roehl Honor Program, Douglas is also completing Roehl’s two-year Apprenticeship Program. This program is registered with the Department of Labor and is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs, enabling eligible veterans to receive GI Bill Benefits while they participate. The program consists of online industry and job education, over-the-road driving experience, and the opportunity to train and teach as a student driver trainer. Graduates of the program earn a CVTA Basic Instructor Certification, a Department of Labor Heavy Truck Driver Certificate of Training, and a Roehl Driver Trainer Certification.
“I became a trainer because I want to help new drivers. I want them to have a foundation for who Roehl is as a company and for the whole industry – for new drivers to be successful too,” Douglas shared.
Transition Trucking is presented by the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes Program (HOH), Kenworth, and FASTPORT. It's a national competition for America’s top military rookie driver. The winning driver is selected after a year-long competition among veterans, guard members and reservists who have made the successful transition in the trucking industry following military service. Roehl Transport has repeatedly been recognized as a Military Friendly Employer, and the company has had a driving teammate in the Transition Trucking semi-finals every year since 2018. Joseph Campbell won the award as a member of TeamRoehl in 2019.
