National Work Zone Awareness
National Work Zone Awareness Week
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and its stakeholders sponsor activities to bring nationwide attention to this topic. Work zones and highway workers are integral to upgrading and maintaining our transportation system.
As one of North America's safest transportation companies, we encourage motorists to use the following actions behind the wheel to improve work zone safety:
Plan Ahead
Before you begin your trip, research your route. Trip plan and look ahead.
Pay Attention
Be aware of all signage throughout work zones indicating reduced speeds, traffic pattern shifts, white lane to operate in, lane changes and other important information.
Slow Down
Slow down when entering a work zone and keep an eye out for road workers. Move over and give workers room to safely complete their work.
Move Into the Open Lane
Pay close attention to vehicles around you and avaid making unnecessary lane changes.
Keep Your Distance
Rear-end crashes are extremely common in work zones. Always mantain extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
