Roehl is built on values, and it’s those values make us different from other over the road trucking companies. There are generally four types of experience levels for over the road (OTR) truck driving jobs:
The spectrum ranges from owner operators, people who have their own truck or who lease a truck, and have experiencing picking up and delivering freight. Many owner operators are experienced company drivers, the second experience level.
Experienced drivers may have as little as six months driving for a company or as many as four decades (Roehl has several drivers with more than 35 or 40 years on TeamRoehl). Before experienced drivers hit the road solo, many will start their careers as a student driver.
More companies are providing over the road trucking jobs to inexperienced drivers because the trucking industry is short so many truck drivers. Because truck drivers are in such demand, trucking as a career is a stable profession. However, it’s important to fully research the company you join, if you are a student driver, because that first trucking company that trains you for over the road driving work sets the course for the rest of your career. You want a carrier that is known for training and for safety (Roehl’s been training new drivers for over 25 years, and we’ve been recognized as one top three safest trucking companies in North America for over a decade by the American Trucking Associations).
The final experience type is where everyone else on the spectrum starts: before you can get an over the road truck driving job, you need a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Roehl offers a first of its kind program to pay people while they get their CDL, which reduces the barriers to entry for those looking to make truck driving a career. If you want to drive a truck and drive a Roehl truck, there's no better place. You're an employee from the start - you're paid to learn and then work in a over the road truck driving job.
No matter your experience level, you’ll want to pick a great over the road job with a solid company. One of the things you’ll quickly learn, if you do any research, is that not all trucking companies are the same. In fact, there are plenty of examples of trucking companies, even very large ones, that do not have great reputations. Roehl has outstanding reputation and it’s supported on rating sites like Glassdoor.com and Indeed.com. The reason for that public acknowledgement of the company is because we have a very positive internal culture that is centered around our Wall of Values. At Roehl, our values shape our behaviors. Many people who are looking for OTR truck driving jobs find Roehl appealing because safety is our cornerstone value.
Not only do we uphold safety, honesty, and professionalism, we also value our teammates. We’ve improved our passenger program and included a pet policy so that you can bring your co-pilot with you. We understand that for a heavy-duty truck driver who spends a lot of time away from family and friends, a pet can be a welcomed companion to help offset the separation that is embedded in over the road truck driving jobs.
Full-time Roehl Transport teammates are eligible to participate in our benefits program, which includes medical insurance, dental insurance, a voluntary vision plan, life insurance, 401(k), and more. We believe that time off from work is also important. That’s why we developed out LOT (Life Outside the Truck) program.
