Tobacco Cessation Program

Through the American Lung Association


If you or a dependent are enrolled in the Roehl medical plan and have indicated that you are a tobacco user, you pay $22.70 more per week for employee only coverage or $26.80 more per week for greater than employee coverage.  You can qualify to pay the lower premiums by completing the Freedom from Smoking Plus tobacco cessation program through the American Lung Association.

The Freedom from Smoking Plus tobacco cessation program is an online course intended to help you gain control over your behavior and break your addiction.  The course is broken up into nine sessions, which prepare you to quit, help you take action on your quit day, as well stay tobacco free. 

Participating in the program also includes free telephone, chat, and email support from American Lung Association tobacco cessation counselors as well as access to an online support community. 

Once registered, you will have access to the program for 12 months. 

For employees on the Roehl medical plan with coverage effective January 1, 2023:

If you complete this program and submit your certificate of completion to benefits@roehl.net by April 30, 2023, you will be reimbursed the tobacco surcharge back to January 1, 2023 and will pay the lower premiums for the remainder of the year.

If you complete this program and submit your certificate of completion to benefits@roehl.net after April 30, 2023, you will pay the lower premiums for the remainder of the year.

For employees on the Roehl medical plan with coverage mid-year:

If you complete this program and submit your certificate of completion to benefits@roehl.net within four months of your benefit effective date, you will be reimbursed the tobacco surcharge back to your effective date and will pay the lower premiums for the remainder of the year.

If you complete this program and submit your certificate of completion to benefits@roehl.net beyond four months from your effective date, you will pay the lower premiums for the remainder of the year.
