Roehl Wins Gold MarCom for Video Series

Roehl Transport recently won a Gold MarCom Award for a video series featuring some of our driving teammates who came through our Get Your CDL program. The five-part series called “Driver Chronicles” followed drivers for more than a year as they trained to get their CDLs, pass their CDL skills tests, complete their over-the-road driver training and transition into their own trucks doing the work of professional truck drivers.

In receiving the award, Travis Koch, Roehl’s Audio-Visual Producer, thanked the drivers who were featured in the videos for sharing their time and perspectives. “Kourtney, Geoff, Zach, and Mitchell opened their lives to be recorded as they entered training and started their driving careers. Their honesty with their successes and failures is what makes the series so powerful,” he added.

The MarCom Awards recognize outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of marketing and communication materials programs. This is Roehl’s third Gold MarCom award, and the seventh overall MarCom recognition for the company, including a 2022 Honorable Mention for a United Way Pro Bono video that Koch produced.

“I hope the Driver Chronicles series helps Roehl Transport grow as it encourages and inspires others who watch it. The series is an easy to understand and timeless documentary of how our company is living our values,” Koch noted.

Roehl Transport is one of North America’s safest and most successful trucking companies. Led by CEO Rick Roehl, who is also a truck driver, the company offers professional truck driving careers, including on-the-job CDL training, non-driving jobs and trucking services to customers across America.

Watch the GYCDL Driver Chronicles videos and see how Kourtney, Geoff, Zach, and Mitchell went from getting paid CDL training to being safe, successful professional truck drivers!

Save the Date – Awards Banquet

Save the Date! We will celebrate our Awards Banquet this year on Saturday, April 22.
We will share more information about how you can celebrate with your teammates soon.

TeamRoehl Drivers Earned $4 Million in Safety Incentives in 2022

Thank you for driving the Roehl Way to Protect Others! We are happy to share that our driving teammates earned $4 million in accident-free pay in 2022.

Our driving teammates earn accident-free pay when they do not have preventable accidents and complete all assigned training timely.

In 2022, nearly 92% of company driving teammates who were eligible for accident-free pay earned it!

Safety is our cornerstone value, and accident-free pay is one way we operationalize safe behaviors. Instead of having to wait to receive a quarterly or annual bonus, our driving teammates earn additional accident-free pay for each accident-free mile they drive, as they drive them.

Thank you for holding safety as a value, using the Safe 7 techniques, Driving to Protect Others and for being a member of our great team!

Reminders:

Canada ELD Requirement

On January 1st, Canada is requiring all Electronic Logging Devices to be certified by the Canadian Transportation Organization, and our provider, DriverTech, is going through the process currently but will not meet the Jan 1 deadline. This means until our ELDs are certified by Canada, drivers will no longer be able to operate in or through Canada.

If you are dispatched on a load that goes into Canada, or transits through, and you are using the Driver Tech ELD, please contact your Fleet Manager or Safety and Compliance Dept as soon as possible.

Available Resources to help Maintain Your Equipment in the Winter

You will find your 2022-2023 Winter Maintenance Operations job aid on the My Roehl app, Driver Toolkit, then Job Aids. This job aid will help you be successful with your equipment this winter.

If you take your truck home, plug the truck in when below 20 degrees and make sure you disconnect your accessories, coolers, TV’s, etc. Also, when parking at home or at another location while enjoying home time, make sure the auto start is off.

When temperatures are 10 degrees or less, make sure your fuel is treated.

We recommend you carry additional coolant, fuel additive and spare fuel filters. You can pick these items up at any Roehl maintenance terminal.

Prepare to drive by warming the coolant temperature to 140 degrees before driving. This will ensure your fuel is warm enough to pass through the fuel filter.

And ensure you are properly connected to your trailer. Always do your three-point visual inspection for proper coupling.

Also, if you do not have winter cleats, pick up a free pair at the parts counter at any of our terminals.

If you have questions or want help please contact your fleet manager, business advisor if you are an owner operator or our maintenance support teammates.

Turning on Fuel Pumps using Mobile Apps

Easier, More Convenient and More Secure

Several of our fuel vendors are encouraging drivers to use their smartphone apps to turn on the fuel pumps.

The advantages turning on the fuel pump with the vendors apps include ease of use, more convenience and faster data entry as well as being touchless and more secure.

At some locations turning on the pump with an app or going into the truck stop will be the only options so we are creating additional resources to help you connect your EFS card to the vendor apps.

Step 1. If you have not already done so, you’ll want to add the Flying J, Loves and TA/Petro Apps to your phone. You will find links to the apps in the Additional Resources section of the My Roehl App main menu.

Step 2. If you have not already registered, follow the app’s instructions.

Step 3. Add your EFS card as a payment option.

Step 4. Use the appropriate app to pay for fuel from the convenience of your truck while in a fuel lane.

You can find more information in the My Roehl App News Hub.

Random Acts of Kindness Month

February 12th-18th is Random Acts of Kindness Week. Celebrate with us by completing at least 1 random act of kindness a day!
Being kind can help make someone’s day a bit brighter and can show your appreciation for them. In addition, spreading kindness has been proven to positively impact your mental health.
We’ve all heard the expression “it’s better to give than to receive,” but did you know that people who are kind and compassionate see benefits to their wellbeing and happiness. A kind individual has a spirit of helpfulness, is generous and considerate, and commits kind acts without expecting anything in return. The art of kindness is simple, free, positive, and healthy. Take a few minutes to learn the health benefits of kindness and think about doing something kind for a friend or a stranger today.
Evidence shows that being kind and helpful to others can benefit your own mental health and wellbeing. According to the Mayo Clinic, “kindness has been shown to increase self-esteem, empathy and compassion, improve mood, decrease blood pressure and cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and release serotonin and dopamine that give you the feelings of satisfaction and well-being.” It has also been said that people may even live longer.
Not only can we spread kindness to others but extending those kind behaviors to yourself is important to. We as humans are good at verbally beating ourselves up, this negativity often causes us to unravel and lower our self-esteem. Be kind to yourself in your own self-talk and practicing gratitude or daily affirmations.
Spread your appreciation by nominating a fellow teammate for displaying kindness this week to our Living Our Values Recognition Program. Kindness drives us to do the right thing, express our appreciation, and establish unity and inclusivity.
I challenge you to intentionally show extra kindness to your co-workers, random people, friends and family this week.
Visit our Health and Wellness Page for ideas on random acts of kindness you can do today! Also, watch for additional social media posts on Facebook and Instagram this week on how you can spread kindness!
