Turning on Fuel Pumps using Mobile Apps





Easier, More Convenient and More Secure  

Several of our fuel vendors are encouraging drivers to use their smartphone apps to turn on the fuel pumps.  

The advantages turning on the fuel pump with the vendors apps include ease of use, more convenience and faster data entry as well as being touchless and more secure.  

At some locations turning on the pump with an app or going into the truck stop will be the only options so we are creating additional resources to help you connect your EFS card to the vendor apps. 

Step 1. If you have not already done so, you’ll want to add the Flying J, Loves and TA/Petro Apps to your phone. You will find links to the apps in the Additional Resources section of the My Roehl App main menu. 

Step 2. If you have not already registered, follow the app’s instructions.  

Step 3. Add your EFS card as a payment option. 

Step 4. Use the appropriate app to pay for fuel from the convenience of your truck while in a fuel lane.

​Adjustment to Per Diem Program Starts January 1, 2023

We are proud to offer a per diem benefit to our drivers. As you may recall, earlier this year we partnered
with Atlantic HR Solutions to help our drivers maximize their per diem benefit, which allows for eligible drivers
to receive up to $69.00 per day as a tax-free reimbursement for every day they spend away from home when working. 

We want to maximize the tax-free earnings provided to our drivers through the Per Diem Gold Program,
but we must also meet state taxable wage requirements. As a result, we may, in some instances, need to reduce the non-taxable
per diem benefit for a very small percentage of drivers in order to meet their state’s taxable wage requirements.  

In these instances, the driver will see their gross earnings followed by their per diem benefit. That per diem benefit is then deducted
from their gross earnings. That is the driver’s TAXABLE earnings. If the TAXABLE earnings fall below the driver’s state’s taxable wage requirement,
a portion of the driver’s per diem may be reclassified as taxable earnings. This will ensure that the driver meets the state taxable
earnings requirements while also MAXIMIZING the per diem benefits.  

It is important to note that most of our driving teammates participating in the Per Diem Gold Program will see no changes to their per diem benefit.
These necessary changes may affect a small percentage of our teammates who reside in states with higher taxable wage requirements.

Holiday Happenings

We had several opportunites for TeamRoehl teammates to spread Holiday Cheer. Here are a few examples!

David Marihugh and Tim Norlin, along with their wives, had the honor of participating in the laying of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, December 17th as part of  Wreaths Across America.
    

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Truckers for Tots donation possible! In total, we filled the trailer with $12,500 in gifts to make the holiday season special for children in need.
We are so proud of our teammates for all they did to help serve children in the community, especially during this time of year. 🎄
 



TeamRoehl members also volunteered at the Marshfield Rotary Winter Wonderland Lights Display again this year,
collecting food and money for the annual event.

Phoenix Terminal's Elf, Jesus, had a little more of an elaborate story during his time there.
Jesus De La Cruz was recruited 12-12-22. Then Jesus started pre tripping his truck. Once the truck was ready, he was ready to get equipment ready with some tarps. Thursday was the day to get some fuel in the truck,  but no DEF in the fuel tank Jesus! Now Jesus is off on a weekend load.
Luckily, he also had time to shower and wash his gear. He even joined the Phoenix Terminal for their Holiday lunch!

   

  

   

Reminders:

Canada ELD Requirement

On January 1st, Canada is requiring all Electronic Logging Devices to be certified by the Canadian Transportation Organization, and our provider, DriverTech, is going through the process currently but will not meet the Jan 1 deadline. This means until our ELDs are certified by Canada, drivers will no longer be able to operate in or through Canada. 

If you are dispatched on a load that goes into Canada, or transits through, and you are using the Driver Tech ELD, please contact your Fleet Manager or Safety and Compliance Dept as soon as possible.

Available Resources to help Maintain Your Equipment in the Winter 

You will find your 2022-2023 Winter Maintenance Operations job aid on the My Roehl app, Driver Toolkit, then Job Aids. This job aid will help you be successful with your equipment this winter.  

If you take your truck home, plug the truck in when below 20 degrees and make sure you disconnect your accessories, coolers, TV’s, etc. Also, when parking at home or at another location while enjoying home time, make sure the auto start is off.  

When temperatures are 10 degrees or less, make sure your fuel is treated.  

We recommend you carry additional coolant, fuel additive and spare fuel filters. You can pick these items up at any Roehl maintenance terminal.  

Prepare to drive by warming the coolant temperature to 140 degrees before driving. This will ensure your fuel is warm enough to pass through the fuel filter.  

And ensure you are properly connected to your trailer. Always do your three-point visual inspection for proper coupling.  

Also, if you do not have winter cleats, pick up a free pair at the parts counter at any of our terminals.

There has been a delay in production of the 2023 IFTA decals so please work with your fleet manager or business advisor to get your 2023 IFTA Permit or pick it up at any of our maintenance terminals. It is also available in the My Roehl app then Permits then MISC. Keep a copy in your permit book. As soon as we have more details on the decal production, we will share the plan to get the IFTA decal installed on your truck.

 Starting January 1, 2023, Connecticut requires all drivers to carry their Highway Use Permit. You can find this permit in the My Roehl App in Driver Toolkits then Permits. 

 To get the permit, pick one up at any of our terminals, contact your fleet manager or business advisor, if you are an owner operator, to have it faxed to you or print it from the My Roehl app News Hub. You must have a printed version of this card if traveling into Connecticut.
